Tamara Bertrand Jones, Ph.D.

Dr. Tamara Bertrand Jones is an Associate Professor of Higher Education and Associate Director for the Center for Postsecondary Success at Florida State University. Her research uses qualitative methods informed by critical and Black feminist theories to examine how culturally responsive environments and structures of support in education keenly influence the intersectional experiences of historically underrepresented populations, particularly Black women, in academia. She is a founder and past president of Sisters of the Academy Institute, an organization that promotes collaborative scholarship and networking among Black women in academia. Furthering her commitment to STEM through her research and practice in higher education, Dr. Bertrand Jones has designed, implemented, and evaluated institutional, state, and federal programs and interventions focused on increasing opportunities for minoritized populations in STEM fields. Her contributions to recruiting and preparing United States Air Force aviators to supporting and preparing early career women in STEM, Dr. Bertrand Jones’ praxis is grounded in inclusive excellence through collaboration, learning, and individual and institutional transformation. Her work as a higher education administrator and program evaluator informs her research on culturally responsive assessment and evaluation and higher education leadership. Dr. Bertrand Jones’ scholarship and practical initiatives hold far-reaching implications for recruitment, retention, advancement, and professional development of emerging scholars in higher education.
